FAQ

Firearm Training Inquiry

Firearm Training Inquiry

I’m a beginner who is interested in possibly some day obtaining a CCW/CFP permit. I don’t know if I’m ready at this point for the full CCW class. Do you offer a class just for beginners like me?

Yes, I offer a class called FIREARMS 101. It starts with the basics of firearm safety, terminology, mechanics of firearms, types of FA’s for personal protection, home defense, and public defense. The setting is comfortable. 4.0 hr course. When ready, we do a 1.5 hr range day.

Do I bring my firearm to class?

No. FA’s are only brought to the range on range day.

What do I need to bring to class?

Your State Identification or Drivers License, One passport quality photo, Snacks & Beverage for yourself, your payment, and a good attitude toward firearm safety and training.

Do I have to have my own firearm for the range portion of the class or will one be provided?

No. If you own your handgun, you may bring that to the range. If you do not currently own one, one will be available for you to use. You will need to provide your ammunition.

Will there be more training available after the initial class?

Yes, training is ongoing. The initial State of Utah CCW course covers the essentials required by the UTAH DPS-BCI. Supplemental training courses that I conduct are ongoing and available by appointment. This cover responding to a threat, firearm protection and weapon retention, as well as threat assessment and acquisition. Each course reviews firearm safety and how we endorse it in public and private settings. These are all held on the range.

Can I take just the range training without the classroom portion?

Yes, if you have previously had a basic firearm safety course or you are a current permit holder.
